Escort Redline. Read tons of stuff and was dead set on getting a Valentine One as it's been a long time favorite of mine. After researching for hours I ended up deciding the Redline was my best option. Primarily for it's detection range and even moreso it's off axis capability. We've no speed cameras here in SA or in the Hill Country and the only place I know of that has red light cameras is Balcones Heights so I opted for detection range over the Escort 9500ix's GPS capability. If I traveled the 9500 would've been better choice imo.

Thanks. I too am/was leaning towards a Valentine but the Escort does seem to get excellent reviews; particularly, and as you said, in the areas of range and off-axis detection. It apparently also does well in hilly terrain. Definitely now under consideration...

Bam!!! Key factor in my choice...hoofin' it through the turns where mr. constable in his pickup truck waiting with radar is exactly what I was thinking with purchase of this particular model. ALSO...check out AUTOANYTHING.COM Got a great discount through there AND it's an approved reseller of Escort products. If you're thinking of buying from an online reseller make sure you check Escort's list of unapproved resellers. They will not warranty anything bought from a vendor on there unapproved list [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I have a question...this the first i have ridden in the states, so it may seem like a quirky question but, what are the legalities to having a radar detector? Are they allowed, i mean the intent is to not get caught, but if you do or if authorities see you have it, isnt there a fine or something attached?

100% legal in Texas. I believe there's just a handful of states where they are illegal such as Virginia.
